Embodied Voice Development

letting your voice’s natural wisdom conduct you

Embodied Voice Development invites your authentic voice to take the reins in how it organizes and expresses itself. When we view the voice as an organ by itself, you’ll get to experience a completely different relationship with your voice and how it interacts with the world around you.

Our voices are a deeply personal aspect of self-expression that reflect our physical and mental states. The vagus nerve, also known as the primary nerve of our parasympathetic nervous system (rest, recover, digest), predominantly innervates our larynx with sensory nerves.

Developing this friendship with our voice requires time and patience. Like any other living being, our voices have better and worse days, and learning how to listen and tune in to the physicality of our voice is paramount to speaking and singing with ease and power.

This fact alone begs the question: what would happen if we treated the larynx as a sensory organ that conducts the rest of our body instead of the other way around? When we find ourselves in a state of sympathetic arousal (stress, fear, etc.), we can immediately feel the effects in our voice. Our throat might close, the larynx gets pulled up, our pitch rises, and the resonance and brilliance of our voice become dulled.

The Embodied Voice Development Process

Our work together is rooted in the belief that your voice has an innate wisdom and capacity for self-organization. Through a holistic and integrated approach, we’ll guide you in deepening your connection with your authentic voice, allowing it to naturally find its balance, power, and versatility.

Rather than relying on directed exercises or techniques, we’ll create a supportive space for your voice to self-organize through increased awareness of your breath, body, and emotions. This organic, adaptive process encourages your voice to effortlessly adapt to your unique needs, goals, and circumstances.

By nurturing this self-organizing principle, you’ll unlock a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between your voice and your physical, mental, and emotional states. This journey will lead to more authentic, powerful vocal expression and enhanced self-awareness, allowing you to foster genuine connections with listeners.
